The gene patent discussion by Steven Salzberg:

"I argue here that gene patents, and patented genetic tests based
on them, are a very bad idea. First, i discuss whether genes can
reasonably be the subject of patents in the first place; i maintain that
the answer is no. second, i explain how gene patents interfere with
scientific progress, slowing down the development of new cures and
treatments for genetic diseases."

"Through a method called dynamic soaring, the bird—with a wingspan of up to 12 feet (3.7 meters)—can glide thousands of miles without flapping."

There is it is, the term "Junk DNA" can now finally go in the bin as the ENCODE project clearly identifies that almost all the genome locations that are non-coding are active on the regulatory level. This massive amount of data (published not only in the main paper but also in several accompany papers and a ENCODE app!) increase our knowledge of the Human genome and molecular mechanisms in general.

Exciting to work in the lab of the main leading PI of this project and to see so many familiar names on all these papers. Congrats to all!

A day at the London Olympics parc to visit 4 different sports at the Paralympics. Great fun seeing 7-side football, Goalball, Weelchair tennis and best of all Weelchair rugby (or as it was previously known Murderball!).

Weirdly enough the Olympics park also features the largest McDonalds in the world, part of a healthy lifestyle I presume that's….
